How do you view balance?

How do you view balance? For some it inspires the Goldilocks life of work/life balance. For others the mind may go straight to a balance posture in yoga!  We spoke about balance in my Hatha class the other day.  How often we go in for a balance posture and our thoughts turn to ‘my bung toe’, ‘my bad hip’, ‘my wonky leg’ and a multitude other loving comments we narrate during our practice.  We worked through how balance is not just about the physical one foot.  It is about the way in which you as a whole experience balance.  Is there balance in your breath? Is there balance across the whole of the body? Is there balance through clarity of the mind? Challenging the concept of balance being just physical we started with a Nodi-Shodhana, pranayama of alternate nostril breath and imbued anjali mudra throughout our postures to invite that energetic balance of our left and ride sides of the mind, body and spirit through our hands.  We kept coming back to our breath, our mind state, the whole of self.  By the end our class felt calmer, stable and confident in each balance approached, just stunning to witness!

It is in these moments we realise that our practice is ever growing, no matter how many times you roll out the mat, your practice constantly evolves.  There is an increase of self-awareness through practice that spills over into your day-to-day life.  Each day I come to teach, it is YOU our students who teach me.  Your growth is my growth. I celebrate you each and every day for continuing to show up for yourself!
